You can no longer buy a single-coach FastDraw license online. The FastModel store lists no products, the old FastDraw pages redirect to a Hudl form that says to contact sales, and Hudl's high school price page marks FastDraw only in its quote-only Athletic Department package. A coach on r/basketballcoach reported this month that the smallest package he was offered covered four coaches and 16 players. If you are a solo coach, export your playbook this week, then decide between getting FastDraw through your school, asking Hudl for a written quote, or moving to a tool that publishes its price, most of which cost $60 to $180 a year.

What changed, and when
Hudl announced its acquisition of FastModel Sports on March 11, 2025. For a few weeks nothing visible changed. The February 2025 capture of FastModel's store still shows five tiers with add-to-cart buttons. By May 12, 2025 the prices sat next to a "contact us" prompt, and by May 21 the prices were gone and only the contact form remained. That is where things still stand.
What made September 2026 different is that coaches are hitting it at renewal. On September 7, a coach with more than ten years of material in FastDraw posted that Hudl was dropping the individual license, and that the only package open to a single coach bundled four coach logins and 16 player logins he did not need. We could not find that package or any price on a Hudl page, so treat it as one coach's report. It does line up with FastModel's old Premium tier: four desktop licenses, four iPad licenses and 20 web users.
Hudl's own pricing supports the direction of travel. On the high school comparison table, FastDraw and FastScout for basketball are checked only in the Athletic Department column, with an "add-on available" note. They do not appear in the club basketball plan table at all. The free FastDraw for iPad app, updated on September 14, 2026, still requires a FastDraw login to use.
Back up your playbook this week
Do this before any renewal conversation, not after. FastModel's archived purchasing FAQ was blunt about what happens when a subscription ends: you lose access to the applications. Hudl's current support pages do not say whether a local file can still be opened without a license, so assume it cannot.
- Copy the FastDraw Files folder. On desktop, your library lives in a local Master.fdb file, alongside a Local Backup folder that FastDraw writes to every five minutes when something changes. Copy the whole folder to a drive and a cloud account.
- Export every playbook to PDF. On desktop use FastPrint, then the Preview tab, then the PDF icon. On the web, open Playbooks and use the PDF icon.
- Export images. File, then Save As Images, writes one image per playbook page in the format and size you choose. Images drop straight into slides, practice plans and any other diagramming tool.
- Record the animations you care about. Hudl does not document an animated video export. A screen recording of your ten most important sets is ten minutes well spent.
- Send key plays to a staff member with FastTrade, so a second copy exists outside your account.
Option 1: Get it through your school
If your athletic department already has a Hudl package, FastDraw may already be paid for. In the public Hudl order forms we reviewed for what schools actually pay for Hudl, Beaver Area School District's 2026 Level 4 package lists FastScout and FastDraw for basketball as line items. Ask your AD for the order form and look for them. If they are not there, ask whether they can be added at renewal, since Hudl's table lists them as an add-on.
Option 2: Ask Hudl, in writing
If you want to stay on FastDraw and your school will not cover it, ask for the smallest package available to one coach, and get the answer in writing:
1. What is the smallest FastDraw package I can buy, and what does it cost per year?
2. Is that a first-year price or a renewal price?
3. If I sign, can I reduce seats later? Hudl's master subscription agreement says quantities cannot be decreased during the term unless the order form says otherwise.
4. If I leave, how do I export my library, and in what format?
Option 3: Move to a tool with a published price
Every tool below publishes its price. We checked each on its own site or App Store listing in September 2026.

Two practical notes. The Hoops Geek says it can import a FastDraw .fdb file through its FastDraw import tool, and CoachCanvas says its free plan imports a FastDraw library, which matters more than any feature list if you have years of plays. And in the r/basketballcoach threads on this topic, several replies recommending tools came from the tools' own makers, so weigh recommendations accordingly.
How to choose
- You need animated plays for players on their phones: The Hoops Geek or Elite Hoops.
- You want to bring your library with you: start with the tools that say they import FastDraw files, The Hoops Geek and CoachCanvas, and test your own file on a free plan first.
- You coach with a staff and want everyone in one place: a team plan, such as FastBreak's $250 a year for unlimited users or The Hoops Geek's team plan.
- You only need a whiteboard for timeouts: a one-time app such as InfiniteHoops at $4.99.
FastDraw is still the best at what it does
Say it plainly. FastDraw remains the clearest, most basketball-native diagramming tool available, and our FastDraw pricing breakdown said so when Hudl first moved it behind a sales call. If your school can get it through a department package, take it. The problem is not the product. It is that the coach who used it for $25 a year now has no published way to buy it at all.
